About "The Fungal Collection at the Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz"

The Collection

Herbarium specimen The Fungal Collection at the Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz (GLM) comprises more than 110,000 herbarium specimens of true fungi (Eumycota, exclusive lichens). The around 4,400 taxa represented are mainly from Eastern Germany and collected from the 2nd half of the 20th century to present. A major part consists of poroid and corticioid wood-inhabiting fungi, collected by I. Dunger and co-workers from 1968 to 1995 (see voucher of Climacocystis borealis on the right). Within the last decade the taxonomical and geographical scope of the collection has been continually expanding, now with substantial material from other groups of macromycetes as Hebeloma and phytopathogenic fungi (see detailed Description of the Fungal Collection in GLM in German). Since 2014 the Mycology section is headed by Dr. Ulrike Damm.

The Data Project and Service

The data project "The Fungal Collection at GLM" was established by Herbert Boyle, Görlitz. Support was provided by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) within the frame of the umbrella project "Establishing the German GBIF Node for Mycology". Data entry was mainly done by Frank Fiebrandt and scientific survey provided by Herbert Boyle. For online access "The Fungal Collection at GLM" uses Diversity Workbench components developed within the framework of the GLOPP project and the GBIF-D Fungi & Lichens project. The ColdFusion web interface was programmed by Jan Ingenhaag, Botanische Staatssammlung München. The Generic Point Mapper (Canadian Biodiversity Information Facility) and Google Maps are used as web services to create dynamic maps.

Currently the data project "The Fungal Collection at GLM" is maintained and expanded by Herbert Boyle, the former head of the Mycology section and staff members of the Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz as part of the German GBIF Node for Fungi & Lichens. Notices of errors of any kind are much appreciated by the editorial staff there. Technical support is provided by the Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns, IT Center.
